Senior Care

As our beloved pets grow older, their needs begin to change, just like ours. You may notice your pet slowing down, acting differently, or developing new habits.

At Carberry Vet Clinic, our goal is to help you understand these changes and provide the care and support your pet needs to stay happy, healthy, and comfortable throughout their golden years.

Recognizing the Signs of Aging

Every pet ages differently, but some common signs that your dog or cat may be entering their senior years include:

  • Slowing down or not jumping as easily

  • Shorter walks or needing more breaks during playtime

  • Difficulty getting up or climbing stairs

  • Increased drinking - frequent refilling of water bowls

  • Cats sitting by sinks or water dishes as if they can’t get enough water

  • Changes in appetite — eating more or less than usual

  • Seeming “forgetful” or confused about where they are

  • Hearing loss or not responding to familiar sounds

  • Cloudy eyes or signs of vision changes

  • Thinning hair or areas of hair loss

These changes can be normal parts of aging, but they can also signal underlying health concerns. Our team is here to help identify what’s happening through comprehensive exams and diagnostics, so we can create a plan to keep your pet comfortable and thriving.

Supporting Your Senior Pet’s Changing Needs

As pets age, their metabolism, digestion, and nutrient requirements evolve. Our team will work with you to review your pet’s diet and recommend:

  • Nutritional adjustments – senior pets often benefit from diets with modified protein or fat levels to support healthy weight and organ function.

  • Joint supplements – to ease stiffness and improve mobility.

  • Skin and coat recipes & Supplements – to maintain soft, healthy fur and reduce dryness or shedding.

  • Brain and cognitive Support Recipes or Supplements- to help support neuro changes and maintain brain function.

  • Gut health support diets or supplements- to help promote good bacteria in the gut biome while reducing inflammation and irritation.

We’ll help guide you toward diet options or supplements that best match your pet’s individual needs and lifestyle.

Dental Health in Senior Pets

Dental disease is one of the most common health concerns we see in aging pets. Our team offers dental exams to assess whether your pet may benefit from a cleaning or extractions.
