What to Expect at Your Puppy’s First Visit?

During your puppy’s New Patient Exam, our veterinary team will perform a full nose-to-tail health assessment and outline a vaccination and care plan that best suits their individual needs.

Based on their age and medical history, your puppy’s first visit typically includes:

  • Comprehensive Health Exam – to ensure your puppy is growing strong and healthy.

  • DA2PP Vaccine – protects against four highly contagious and potentially fatal diseases: Canine Distemper, Adenovirus (Hepatitis), Parvovirus, and Parainfluenza. Distemper affects the respiratory, gastrointestinal, and nervous systems, while Parvovirus is a severe gastrointestinal infection.

  • Bordetella Vaccine – helps prevent kennel cough (canine infectious tracheobronchitis), a highly contagious respiratory infection common in social settings like dog parks or boarding facilities.

  • Rabies Vaccine – protects against a fatal viral infection that affects the brain and central nervous system of mammals. This vaccine is mandatory in Manitoba, and FREE at our clinic! We’re proud to provide rabies vaccines at no cost to keep your pets and our community safe.

  • Deworming – treatment for common intestinal parasites such as roundworms, tapeworms, and hookworms.

Puppy Nutrition

Proper nutrition is key to supporting your puppy’s growth and development. Puppies require a diet rich in protein, fat, and essential nutrients to support healthy brain development, strong bones and joints, and a shiny coat.

We recommend feeding a Puppy Formula diet until your dog reaches one year of age. For large or extra-large breed puppies, we can help design a custom nutrition plan to support their additional bone and joint growth needs and promote healthy development.

When it’s time to transition to adult food, our team can guide you to the best diet to maintain your dog’s long-term health and energy.
